Cartoonists like style tribes because the dress codes define the comic characters for fashion satire. Scots in kilts are a rare sight outside Scotland and films about Scottish history in which they appear as fierce fighters so they are not often subjects of jokes. A Scot who identifies themselves as belonging to a clan may wear the tartan kilt of that clan to which he belongs by right of birth and chooses to identify with. his clan's sartorial traditions. It gives him a sense of belonging. Style tribes dress to be recognised as belonging to a social group who share similar attitudes,

Does this character have a problem? Is he stylised.;a 'Mac'. From an association with the fast food industry the prefix 'Mac' is commonly used disparagingly. We get references ot macjobs and macpolitics. This may seem unfair to the genuine 'Macs' who have strong individuality. But the contempt really is for those who overuse it for rhetorical point scoring. and Mcpoliticians should know better. Of course members of clans and tribes do run the risk of being seen as types rather than individuals. And in many groups there is a risk that the a person may conform to fit in with the group, or even be compelled to do so.. But some groups encourage their members to express individuality. We ma y dress the same, work and get along together, but thnk for ourselves.
