Hip hop is style for the socially excluded, which makes it fashionable for celebrities who want to appear streetwise.. If you wear a baggy track suit, a hoody, trainers, baseball cap and a bling medallion that may have cost thousands but looks as if you got it from a bargain bin then you are likely to be excluded from pubs and clubs with a formal dress code. The performers at the places you get excluded from may well dress like this but if you are a successful rap artist then you may get paid a lot of money to promote brands that market such apparel. Star artists have large wardrobes and dress for the occasion. Those of us who feel socially excluded may buy the clothes these successful people wear or promote because we want to be associated with wealth and glamour.
If we really are socially excluded and financially disadvantaged we buy whatever is cheap on the market and likely to fit.
Hip hop style is comfortable and gives you freedom of movement, whether you are resting or active, whether you are singing and dancing or watching others prance about. .
