Landing on the home page of Bella Freud's site by accident you might think,'Wow, great, a cult comic dog site'. You enter and you find some more jolly dog buttons. But something seriously funny is going on. You press on the buttons and you land in piles of clothes inhabited by models who look as if they are wondering what scruffy types like you are doing in the site of a posh fashion designer. But don't run away. These models don't bite. Take a closer look. Some of them look like interesting characters. The clothes they are wearing may be a bit weird, but they are so elegantly weird that you may be fascinated by them.
The quirkiness of the site reflects the quirkiness of Bella Freud's own fashion style. Bella and web designer Adam Cundy have produced an appropriately offbeat site.
The weak page, in both design and content, is Biography. The dog has added appropriate comment.

Added on to the site is Bella's collection for Jaeger. One question here. Whose idea was it to have Jaeger logos on tops? One of the worst features of branded sportwear is that it turns us into walking billboards.
Since Stylecatcher's visit the Jaeger has had structural changes and Bella has moved on. She belongs to a cultured circle with close ties and interests and in these precarious times it makes sense for a designer to develop a style of work that protects them from the vagaries of the business world. Bella is currently producing knitwear with eccentric slogans and there is a photo of Kate Moss wearing one in the the Evening Standard and of course they are collector's items. Hope Bella finds time to keep up the site.
